But many hundreds of people do just that. From the rug seller’s point of view, the larger and clearer the image can be, the more likelihood of happy customers.

We spend a good deal of time getting the rug image right – by the end of putting the new season rugs online we’d be happy not to see another for, oh, at least a year!

This is the largest size we display, however if a customer wants to see a larger rug image, we email that through, or even post a printed copy. Do you think this is big enough to display on line?

I asked Des about Wilton rugs:

The word “Wilton” refers to the type of weaving method used to produce the rugs displayed on our website. “Wilton” is one of the oldest machine-made weaving crafts and is renowned for the ability to produce carpets and rugs in the finest worsted yarns and also in the highest yarn density.

This means that the “Wilton” weaving method can produce a very high quality pencil point design definition which will not only look better, but will also maintain those good looks because the yarn density will wear better.

All of the rugs offered on our website are produced by the “Wilton” weaving method which is a mark of quality.

I do love my Shaggy rug, but was not too sure how to tackle it with my Dyson, or even if I should…

So, as ever, I knew that Des would have the answer:

“The Shaggy rug supplied by Majestic Rugs is produced in 100% Stain-resistant Polypropylene heat set yarn to provide the maximum opportunity to retain both pile definition and original good looks. This luxurious long-piled Shaggy rug is also produced in traditional Wilton Weave construction to provide excellent and sturdy surface tuft pile anchorage.

Tuft pile anchorage is important, as this allows the rug to be vacuumed with both a suction cleaner and a beater action floor cleaner, by following these simple rules –

A) The suction cleaner should be on a low setting.
B) The beater action cleaner should be on a high setting.

Before you vacuum your Shaggy rug it would be wise to lift and shake the rug in order to loosen any normal household dust and grit, and this will help to make vacuuming more efficient. Our Shaggy rug is a heavy product and therefore it may not be practical or possible to lift or to shake, and therefore I recommend that you lift one edge of the rug, and then flap the rug to create an air flow wave beneath the rug. This will help to loosen the dust and grit and allow for more efficient vacuuming.

Every three months I recommend that you turn the rug over completely and then vacuum the back of the rug to remove dust and grit. It is always surprising how this manages to congregate in spite of normal household cleaning. Regular vacuuming of all rugs and carpets is strongly recommended to prolong the product life and good looks and also to help prevent premature wear.

Caution: This advice is applicable to the Shaggy rug quality supplied by Majestic Rugs Ltd, and may not necessarily apply to other shaggy rug qualities available from other sources.”

Thanks, Des – thorough advice on how to keep my Shaggy rug in great condition. I never thought to turn a rug over and vacuum the underside – what a great idea!

Vacuuming: Regular vacuuming is vital to keep your rug in tip top condition. High traffic areas should be vacuumed on a daily basis to remove normal household dirt and grit which causes abrasion to the yarn fibres. Remember that the cleaner the rug – the longer it will last.

Furniture: Try to rearrange your furniture to create wear distribution over the rug surface – your rug will look better for longer.

Rug Rotation: Rotate your rug 180% to help to distribute the wear – help your rug to look better for longer.

Brushing your rug will help to lift pile back to the original pile direction or setting and give a refreshed look to your rug. Try a stiff broom, or even better a stiff hand brush to brush the pile back and improve the appearance. Be careful not to be too vigorous as this may distort the pile setting and character.

Rug Beating: Do not beat your rug or shake your rug too vigorously as this may cause distress and possible shape distortion to the integrity of the weave construction.

Spills and Thrills: There is nothing more annoying than to have an accident on your brand new rug, but accidents will happen so be prepared. Please don’t wait for the first accident to happen before buying one of the many stain or spot removers from your local hardware store. It is always wise to tackle stains immediately by following the instructions on the stain removal product. Most of these products are also suitable for other textile products in your home.

Heavy Furniture: It is always wise to invest in furniture cups to avoid indentation by heavy furniture. Some heavy furniture may have to be in a fixed position in your room and therefore it would be wise to move the rug to a slightly different position from time to time. Never drag heavy furniture across the rug as this may cause surface damage or damage to the woven structure.

Soil Barrier Mats: Soil barrier mats are always a good investment as these help to scrape soil, grit and moisture from shoes, and helps to prevent damage to all household flooring products.

Fibre Shedding: On all new rugs you may notice loose fluff on the surface and this is a common but harmless symptom of your new rug settling in. This fluff is made up of very short fibres which are in the pile and these gradually disappear with gentle vacuuming.

Sprouting Tufts: Sprouting refers to pile ends which appear well above the normal level of the rug surface. During the manufacturing process some of the pile ends lean over and get trapped in the rug’s dense pile. The rug finishing process requires that all rugs are brushed and gently sheared, but sometimes some of these trapped tufts are missed in the dense pile. During normal household use these tufts may appear over time and should be nipped off by using a scissors. Please note that you should NEVER PULL THE PILE YARNS OUT.

Did you know that it is quite easy to create your own larger sized shape and rug by joining multiples of Shaggy rugs together?

Many customers looking for larger oblong or square shaped rugs have asked about this possibility as there is obviously a demand for even larger sizes than we offer from our normal range. The pile height of our Shaggy rug quality is 50mm/2 inches which is ideal to disguise any join that may be considered.

For instance, we have been asked for a 400 cm square shaped rug which can be achieved by joining 4 rugs size 200cm x 200cm. We have also been asked for a very long rug sized approximately 200cm x 550cm and this could be achieved by joining 2 rugs size 200cm x 290cm and 200cm x 250cm.

Obviously joining these rugs should be carried out by an experienced and competent carpet fitter, and therefore we first suggest that you contact : www.nicfltd.org.com to obtain a list of recognized and reliable carpet fitters in your area. They should be able to provide a quotation to successfully complete this work in your home.
